Why Malchin Trail?
The "Malchin Trail" is a cycling event that literally follows the ancient paths used by herder's since prehistoric times. 'Malchin' means 'herder' in Mongolian.
The route stretches along the southern edge of the Khan Khentii Special Protected Area, east of Ulaanbaatar. Khan Khentii is the birthplace of Genghis Khan, the founder of the Mongol Empire, the place of Temujin was proclaimed Genghis Khan and the site of his prehistoric tomb. Riding this route, you'll encounter prehistoric deer stones, historic Buddhist monasteries that once flourished, Blue Lake, where Temujin was proclaimed Genghis Khan by the tribal khuliltai, the clean and beautiful Khangal Lake, and countless sheep, goats, horses, and cattle, all of which reflect the nomadic lifestyle that has persisted since prehistoric times. Perhaps you'll experience "the other end of the world" on the Mongolian Plateau.
This tour is self-supported, so you should to prepare your bike, your own food and sleeping gears.. You also have to repairs your bike . Along the way, you'll pass through three villages with resupply stores.(Please refer to 'Route' for information on towns where you can resupply.)
The night before the start, we have a welcom party with dinner and sleep in a accommodation.
Every day, we'll enjoy a fun ride along a designated route of approximately 70km, followed by a wild camping experience. On the final day, we'll return to the starting point, sleep in a accommodation, and enjoy a finish party.
The 363km loop course consists of five stages. Most of the ride is unpaved doubletrack with little traffic, with some paved roads, so there's no technical difficulty. However, you'll occasionally have to cross streams or mud pits. Don't worry, these streams are shallow and short, making them easy to navigate on foot.
While we start together each day, we'll ride at our own pace, so there may be times when you're completely alone. Therefore, you need to use the provided GPS track to navigate the trail. There are numerous unmarked forks in the road, and a wrong turn could lead you to a completely different destination.
The route file will be finalized by August 1st, and registered participants will receive an email with detailed information for the ride.
This tour is limited to the first 99 participants.
We want to set it at a scale that we and nature can handle.
