Malchin Trail 2026
Aug. 23~29 (24. AM 8 Grand Start)
Khan Khetii, Mongolia
357km, +4,185m, 5 Stages
The "Malchin Trail" is a self-supported bikepacking group ride event that literally follows the ancient paths used by herder's since prehistoric times.'Malchin' means 'herder' in Mongolian.
The route stretches along the southern edge of the Khan Khentii Special Protected Area, east of Ulaanbaatar. Khan Khentii is the birthplace of Genghis Khan, the founder of the Mongol Empire, and the site of his prehistoric tomb. Riding this route, you'll encounter prehistoric deer petroglyphs, historic Buddhist monasteries that once flourished, Blue Lake, where Genghis Khan founded the Mongol Empire, the beautiful Khangal Lake, and countless sheep, goats, horses, and cattle, all of which reflect the nomadic lifestyle that has persisted since prehistoric times. Perhaps you'll experience "the other end of the world" on the Mongolian Plateau.
The 357km loop course consists of five stages. Most of the ride is unpaved doubletrack with little traffic, with some paved roads, so there's no technical difficulty. However, you'll occasionally have to cross streams or mud pits. Don't worry, these streams are shallow and short, making them easy to navigate on foot.
